Two stone pillars of DNA (double helix) rise in the desert in a reference to Shelley's poem Ozymandias. The broken head (shattered visage) lies half-buried in the sand surrounded by fallen masonry. Ozymandias was the Egyptian Pharoah Ramesses II. The poem, and the picture, are redolent of decline, decay, the sands of time, and the hubris of human power.
