Description
Type Ia supernova. These supernovae happen when material from one star (in a binary star system - large and orange in this picture) is drawn (via an accretion disk) onto a white dwarf (brilliant white at centre, with a mass close to the Chandrasekhar critical mass). Ultimately the white dwarf explodes and this is called a supernova.
